Thanks for agreeing to helping on writing the final chapter of The Wikipedia Story, a book by Andrew Lih to be published in 2009 by Hyperion.
The last chapter is an experiment in wiki-ness, and will be edited by a select group of folks at the beginning but then will allow anyone with a Wikimedia account to edit as well.
General Guidelines
- Please respect each other and be civil
- Opinions and views are encouraged, so Wikipedia's NPOV is not directly application. But inspired by NPOV's spirit, we propose instead a policy of FARC in writing -- be fair, accurate, reasoned and coherent.
- Fair - Journalist Dan Gillmor describes fairness as listening to different viewpoints. "It does not mean parroting lies or distortions to achieve that lazy equivalence that leads some journalists to get opposing quotes when the facts overwhelmingly support one side."
- Accurate - Get the facts right. It adds to your credibility.
- Reasoned - Opinions are not forbidden, but they must be based on the first two principles (fairness and accuracy) andbe thoroughly explained and presented
- Coherent - In contrast to an encyclopedia article, a nonfiction narrative needs to tell a story and contain a sustained argument. Make sure that additions and edits contribute to or stay faithful to whatever narrative is being established.
- We encourage the community to come up with norms that are faithful to the collaborative writing mission
- Andrew Lih/Fuzheado reserves the final say on membership and legal questions. He of course wants to respect the community of assembled folks and be faithful to the collaborative product. He pledges exercising this power will be "rare, and only when necessary."
